Burger and Lobster, Threadneedle Street

Review Burger and Lobster Threadneedle Street
Burger and Lobster has been around for a while now. £20 for lobster and fries made everyone look when it first hit the scene in London. And still there are often queues out the doors of some of their joints.

The premise is simple. No menu, there are just three items. Whole lobster, lobster roll or beef burger. All £20. Each item comes with shoestring fries and a side salad.

Burger and Lobster on Threadneedle Street is relatively new to the City and resides in a huge venue that used to house Pacific Oriental. With high ceilings and large windows the light floods in. When you walk in, to the right there is a large bar and seating, then to the left there is the main restaurant and a mezzanine floor with even more tables! With such a simple menu the service is quick, not rushed but efficient and as it lies just behind my office it’s the perfect spot for lunch.

The Food

So, £20 for lobster, lobster roll or burger. No brainer right? I remember the first time I went and I thought who the heck would ever dream of ordering anything but the whole lobster. So you can guess what I ordered that day – the lobster. And it was delicious! A friend recently went and tried the roll and said it was incredible. So, as I was there for lunch and didn’t fancy the faff of a whole lobster this time I ordered the roll.

What did I learn? ORDER THE LOBSTER ROLL.

The cool lobster meat is dressed in a light Japanese mayo served in a warm toasted brioche bun. And when they ask if you’d like the lemon garlic butter sauce say, YES PLEASE. The cool lobster and warm buttery brioche drizzled with the lemon and garlic was melt in the mouth. Like, I feel this dish was made for that saying. The bun is bursting with lobster. The butter is also ideal for a dunking those fries.

There was also a simple choice for dessert: Baileys ice cream with chocolate hazelnuts or strawberry cheesecake mousse. And the choice, order both obviously! It’s for the table, so totally allowed. The ice cream was rich and felt very naughty. Whilst the mousse was beautifully light and left you thinking, why didn’t we order an extra one?

There is an extensive cocktail menu for you to try if you fancy it – if I didn’t have to go back to work for the afternoon I would have definitely tried a few! So yes, Burger and Lobster is good value for good lobster. I still don’t really see why you would order the burger (unless you don’t like lobster of course). I did see quite a few come out and they look pretty impressive. But, after this trip I’m a lobster roll girl till I die.

They must change the desserts occasionally as when I went to another of their City restaurants recently, they had a mini tiramisu. I always go for the lobster, so tasty
