Mother Kelly’s, Bethnal Green

Review of Mother Kelly's, Bethnal Green

Last Friday we had dinner booked in at the glorious Typing Room in Bethnal Green Town Hall (separate post to follow, but spoiler…it was bloody brilliant). Dinner wasn’t booked until half 8, so after work we headed over to the arches by Bethnal Green station. This area of Bethnal Green has changed dramatically since I first moved to the area and the arches now house some great places to eat and drink. I’ve still not made it to Mission. That’s next on my list!

We just wanted a few drinks and the husband is very into his craft beers so I suggested Mother Kelly’s. I’d not been before but had heard great things about the vast variety of beers they serve.

Well, it went down a treat! D loved it and is already planning his next trip back with ‘the boys’. They describe themselves and a bottle shop and tap room. Which is exactly what the do. They have over 20 taps of beer on offer and prosecco on tap to – this made me very happy! They also have a whole wall of fridges full of beers from around the world. They stock hard to find bottles and many of the London breweries beers.

We ordered some bread to keep us going until our dinner – the platters look good there too. I started with a bottle of Pressure Drop, I am always drawn to this brewery’s beer because of the wicked colouring and design of their labels. I tried the Bosko which I hadn’t tried before (I normally get the pale fire). It was quite orangey, I liked it, but later switched to a glass of prosecco, I do love my bubbles! I actually don’t know what D went for (I’m rubbish with beer names!). He went for something off the tap and then a bottle, again with a great looking label.

There is a really nice vibe in Mother Kelly’s. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable and the variety of beer on offer is probably one of the best in London. Also, its amazing to go somewhere on a Friday after work and it not be rammed. I love Shoreditch but it can get so busy, especially on a Friday. Maybe I’m getting old but I do love a little space!

Prosecco on tap? I’m in. I would quite like Prosecco on tap in my house. Hot water, cold water, prosecco. All the essentials! 😉

Ha, yes. All the essentials! It’s great, the husband can have all his beer and I can have all the prosecco! And only £4.50 a glass too!

Yes, on tap. I think every bar should have it on tap! You need to go – he’ll love it! And it’s right by Bethnal Green tube so really easy to get to. xx
