Pizza Club: Pizza Buzz, Old Street

Pizza Buzz, Old Street
I’m happy to report Pizza Club is going strong. For our third meeting we went to try the pizza on offer at Pizza Buzz, just off Old Street. It’s a pick ‘n’ mix type situation here so you can try any pizza topping combination that takes your fancy, including those of your wildest dreams!

I do not hide my love and appreciation for pizza. I’ve even compiled my Top 5 London pizzas, though I’m always on the look out for new pizzas to try so tell me where I should try next! But what do I love most about Pizza Club (apart from the eating of the pizza)? It’s the great catch-ups with some lovely ladies and friends who I have very luckily met through blogging. It’s always something I look forward to. Hurrah to pizza and friends!

Pizza Buzz, Old Street
Pizza Buzz occupies a large space on Worship Street, with lots of bright colours and white tables it does have a cafeteria feel to it. I imagine it is heaving at lunchtime! The idea is you pick your base (starting at £4.25), add your cheese (or in my case, cheeses at £1.95 each), then pick your protein (£1.50 each) and top with vegetables (all £1) of your choosing! You can create a pizza completely to how you like it.

However, if all these decisions baffle you then you can pick from their small menu of specials. We actually did a bit of both as some of their specials sounded fab.

The pizzas

I have to say, I found the choice a little overwhelming. I know the toppings I like but there is something about having so much choice that makes you want to add toppings to your pizza just because, even if the flavours are a complete mismatch. So Connie and I had to reign ourselves in when creating our masterpiece!

We did the usual and ordered different pizzas so we could all have a little taste of each others – the best way to share pizza!

From the specials we ordered the Irish Mist. A very mysterious sounding pizza I thought. This pesto based pizza is topped with Mozzarella, Spicy Sausage, Boiled New Potato, Rosemary and Fennel Seeds. I may have been fussy and taken the fennel seeds off… love fresh fennel, don’t like the seeds. It may sound like carb overload but sliced potato goes so well on a pizza! I’ve had it once before so nudged us to make the order. This was one of my favourite pizzas of the night, even for a tomato base lover like myself!

Emma ordered the White Forest, another special on the board. This time the pizza had a white sauce base, Mozzarella, Merguez Sausage and Broccoli. I liked the sausage and broccoli, but I’m not a huge fan of white bases. But that is the great thing about Pizza Buzz, you can create the pizza you love so easily!

Then came our wonderful Pizza Buzz creations. Clare used the Italian on the specials board as a starting point with Tomato, Garlic Oil, Buffalo Mozzarella, Prosciutto di Parma, and added green peppers and broccoli to create her signature pizza.

Then Connie and I, liking things spicy, created our very own fiery pizza! We started with a classic Margherita base with mozzarella, then added goats cheese, caramelised red onion with n’duja (our favourite) and fresh chilli. The outcome was spicy, even for us! It was really fun to work your way through the stations picking your favourite toppings, though I did have to stop Connie putting pineapple on… I usually love sweet and savoury combinations but I don’t like warm pineapple! Weirdo I know.

Of course burrata was ordered on the side too. It’s not the best I’ve had but it still had a lovely creamy centre and was perfectly cooling after a bit of our spicy pizza!

Oh and then there is the ice cream! This was the biggest surprise of the night for me. They have a selection of not only cow’s milk ice cream but there are goat’s milk and almond milk options too, in some really great flavours. I ordered almond milk cherry and it was wonderfully creamy and fruity. A perfect end to our meal.

The Drinks

I have to make a big mention on the drinks front. There is a soft drinks machine that can make your favourite tipple into an unbelievable amount of different flavours!! I’ve never seen a soft drinks machine like this, but apparently there is one like this at Five Guys. Cherry sprite was my choice. Delicious!

There are some great local beers available too and wine and prosecco if it takes your fancy. They also produce their own fresh juices made daily. You can see a lot of thought has gone into every aspect of Pizza Buzz.

the verdict

I enjoyed our evening at Pizza Buzz, it’s a fun way to serve pizza. You can create a pizza for you. It’s perfect for the more picky/fussy pizza eater and for those with any allergies as you can see exactly what is going onto your pizza. Its quick too.

I’m glad they also offer a specials board as, if like me, you’re a bit indecisive and like to see some suggestions on toppings. They serve good pizzas here and they offer a well thought out selection of drinks. And the ice cream was interesting and delicious!

Oh and they do bottomless for £29.95 per person for 90 minutes. Pizza and bubbles is never a bad thing.

Do you have any ideas for Pizza Club number 4? Would you like to join us!?

There is a great choice! And you can make sure no tomato touches your pizza!

So, so much fun! We did go a little overboard with the spice didn’t we… but it was so delicious!
