Pizza East, Shoreditch

Review Pizza East Shoreditch
I had been to Pizza East Shoreditch a few years ago one cold and wintery Friday night. My friend and I were squeezed onto the end of one of the long bench tables and my pizza was fine, but not great like I had anticipated and the service was pretty poor.

I walk past Pizza East in Shoreditch pretty much weekly and have always thought I need to go back and try it out again. Maybe it was a one off and I always hear such great things about it and well, we’ve all seen the photos of delicious looking pizzas! So when my friend suggested we head there on a glorious Friday night I was more than happy to give it another go. And yes, I can now safely say I love Pizza East!

We arrived on time for our booking but did have to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready, because there were four of us we got seated on one of the lovely round tables by the window. Definitely a favourite spot of mine in the restaurant.

The menu here is nice and compact which I like. There is a choice of antipasti, pan and wood oven dishes, the main event of pizzas and a lovely selection of vegetables and salads. You can also order boards with a range of cheeses and meats ‘from the counter’.

We were going to be heading over to the Jackdaw and Star (a great pub over Homerton way) for a friends birthday drinks so we decided to go straight for the pizzas and leave out the antipasti and sides.

Luckily my husband is a sharer and we quite often do a half n half deal with our meals out – it means you get to try more of the menu! D won’t go meatless on his pizzas so the simple buffalo mozzarella, tomato and basil was out of the window. Sometimes I do love a simple pizza! But it was okay because we got two other delightful pizzas. We love a spicy pizza so ordered the salami, tomato, mozzarella, chilli flakes. And because I was craving creamy burrata we had to order the San Daniele, burrata and rocket!

Both pizzas had wonderfully chewy bases with thick and fluffy crusts, perfect for dipping in balsamic and chilli oil (I love this concoction for my pizza crusts!). The salami was nice and peppery and the chilli flakes added a great little kick. This pizza was the perfect partner for our lovely fresh burrata number.

Just look at that creamy burrata!

Rocket and proscuito is always a favourite of mine but the burrata just topped it off! This was definitely my favourite of the night. Such fresh tasting ingredients. All washed down with a great tasting house white.

I wasn’t going to order dessert as I was pretty full. But then I saw cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate and I thought, yes please! Can’t resist a cinnamon doughnut. Warm, light and fluffy with dipping chocolate – what’s not to like! And a great way to end our meal.

I really enjoyed my visit to Pizza East Shoreditch this time around and will definitely be venturing back soon to try some of the other great sounding pizzas.

I like that they are actually generous with their toppings… I’m not saying every inch has to be covered in something (i.e. gross takeaway joints) but it’s nice to see more than 3 pieces of pepperoni etc! That burrata looks utterly luscious.

Yes, it’s very nice they actually give you a pizza with more than a few pieces of meat, they were also very generous with the Prosciutto. The burrata was delicious!
