The beginning if April marked our first wedding anniversary and having had the most amazing adventure on our honeymoon I wanted to share it with you guys. First stop: Singapore.
A day after our wedding we boarded a 12 hour flight to Singapore to begin our two week honeymoon adventure. I originally wanted to see the orangutans in Borneo via Hong Kong and then head to Bali, but connecting flights and only having two weeks meant it just wasn’t going to work out. So Hong Kong and orangutans will have to wait for another trip!
Our itinerary: Singapore – Java (Borobudur) – Bali (Ubud) – Flores (Labuan Jaou) – Bali (Seminyak). 2 weeks, 7 flights. Crazy? Maybe, but it was the best holiday of my life – so far!
Because there was so much we wanted to see and do in Indonesia we decided not to hang around Singapore so we gave ourselves 24 hours there. Tip #1: Travelling 36 hours after your wedding on a 12 hour flight half way around the world will mean you are too exhausted to explore. Ha, what were we thinking!
We landed at 9am in Singapore so we had a full day to explore but we were just completely out of it, with the 8 hour time difference and the high and adrenaline rush from the wedding and finally stopping, we couldn’t hold a conversation let alone walk around the botanical gardens as we had planned! So, we admitted defeat went to grab some lunch in one of the food courts among all the shops on Orchard Road and slept for a few hours in our hotel.
We stayed at the Traders Hotel (now Hotel Jen) which was nice, not spectacular but we were only there for one night. It had a nice outdoor swimming pool and well located for the gardens and minutes from all the shopping on Orchard Road.
A friend of mine lives in Singapore and he very kindly booked us a table at the Cheese and Chocolate bar at the top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
My friend also recommended we try chilli crab whilst in Singapore and told us his favourite haunt. So we headed to Jumbo Seafood Boat Quay. We hadn’t booked and were lucky to get a table an hour later! So we headed just across the river as there are loads of bars that line it. We had the first of many cocktails of our holiday to kick off the evening.
Jumbos was packed. And I can see why. I loved the chillie crab. It was very hot but delicoius. D thought it was tasty but not worth the faff, but he has this opnion about a lot of shellfish. I love the fun of it, just look at the mess you make though!
Feeling nicely full, but with plenty of space for cheese and chocolate we headed to the Marina Bay Sands. Now, this place is out of this world. I still get mesmerised when I look back at photos.
This hotel is HUGE, with what looks like a ship perching on the top. In fact, it houses one of the most epic infinity pools in the world. Below is just the lobby!
This is outside the hotel, everything just feels like it’s not real.
If you are in Singapore you must get to the top – the views are incredible. You feel like you are on top of Singapore. We were there during a thunder storm and I felt like I was in a movie, look at that sky line.
In the Cheese and Chocolate bar you can go for both or just go for the one option. Some of the chocolate desserts were so beautiful. It’s like a buffet where you can keep going back for more. Amazing. They also offer wine or coffee pairing. After all the food we had a wonder and then headed back to our hotel looking forward to bed!
The next morning we were off to Java!
