Laid Back Vibes At Sisu Rooftop Bar, Oxford Street

Sisu rooftop bar in London on Oxford Street serves fruity cocktails and small bites. Perfect for a Summers evening!

Sisu is bringing the laid back Scandinavian vibes in an oasis of greenery to the rooftops of Oxford Street! Taking over from last years Notch rooftop bar, Sisu is a cool and chilled place to enjoy a cocktail and bite to eat.

There is something so satisfying about enjoying drinks on a rooftop bar in London during the summer. When it gets really hot it seems to be one of the few places you can actually cool off. Which is why they are perfect spots for a cocktail or two!

After walking up the 5 flights of stairs to Sisu (note, there is NO lift!) you’ll want to grab a seat! When you arrive take one of the large tables under the canopy (got to expect the worst with a British Summer!) or take a stool at the edge of the rooftop where you can watch all the shoppers below.

The food and drink

First things first, you’ve got to order one of the great cocktails on offer. There are two Negroni machines that are very fun to use! But there are also ‘Jars’ on the menu too. The cocktails are all very fruity, which I personally love. El Diablo (tequila, blackcurrant and ginger) and Californ IA (Vodka, grapefruit and orange) were favourites on the night.

When it comes to the food, there’s a nice small menu of bites and small plate-style items.

The cauliflower cheese arancini were beautifully crisp on the outside and delightfully cheesy on the inside. Very moreish. And when they’re quite small it means you can have more than one right!?

The poutine made with beef shin ragu and hard goats cheese wasn’t really poutine (it’s normally made with lots of gravy!) but it was very tasty indeed. I mean who doesn’t like chips topped with pulled beef! Also the chips were really good. We quickly devoured the pot!

Most surprisingly my favourite dish of the night was the Aubo Taco! Although more like a wrap than a taco, it was filled with miso aubergine, chilli and crispy onions and some kind of dreamy mayo. It was spicy and comforting and bloody delicious. I don’t usually go for the veggie option on a menu (though this is something that is starting to change… I’m trying to eat a lot less meat at the moment. Though it’s proving hard than I thought.) so I was very happy with my veggie choice!

The Verdict

All the stripped back wood and plants and the Scandinavian simplicity that runs through the whole rooftop bar at Sisu fills you with calm as you reach the top. Even if you are a little sweaty from the climb! The cocktails are good and the food delicious. Arrive as early as you can to avoid queues, and grab yourself a seat and enjoy the calm whilst London bustles below you.

I’m so excited to visit this place – I’m originally from Finland and ‘Sisu’ is Finnish word meaning resilience (which I imagine you sometimes need with the British summer, although that said this one has been pretty great so far!). I don’t think I know any other places in London named after my mother tongue, so I’ll definitely need to visit. I’ll definitely want to trial that miso aubergine taco when I go – it sounds amazing! As do those cocktails xx

Love a good rooftop bar and I can’t wait to try this! This summer I’ve been enjoying the Rumpus Room, the rooftop bar at Picturehouse Central, and Vista in Trafalgar! x
