I’ve never done a monthly round-up, but I have had the most awesome August meaning I’ve been away from home every weekend, all month. I have literally been non-stop this summer but I’ve loved it!
This has meant it’s been pretty quiet on here…
But that also means I have LOADS to share with you! I have eaten a lot of great food (of course), had super cocktails and travelled to a festival, Barcelona and Somerset!
I’ve barely checked in on twitter but I have still been sharing snaps on Instagram because I just bloody love it. You can always follow me on there!
So, here is a round-up of my Awesome August.
Wilderness Festival
August began with Wilderness Festival, which if you haven’t heard of, it’s the most incredible food lovers festival out there. Held in the heart of the rolling Oxfordshire countryside on a stunning private estate. You can expect the best street food, banquets, swimming in lakes, great music, feathers and lots of glitter.
I was here to work with the amazing Berlin brünch popup. Noemi created a delicious menu for her first festival season. Think thick slices of sourdough piled high with the freshest ingredients. My favourites were beetroot hummus with sliced avocado, chilli and sesame seeds and the goats cheese with strawberries, hazelnuts and honey.
I loved prepping all the food and making the sliders. It was great to meet other traders and chat to all the festival goers. It was quite an intense fews days but unbelievably fun – I got to work with the best team out there! And the sun came out all weekend which just added to the good vibes. I managed to see Parov Stelar (one of my favourite bands) and Goldie with his orchestra, which was so nice and chilled in the glorious sunshine.
Thai Square Spa
I had just one day to switch from festival mode to holiday mode. This was the perfect excuse to enjoy the new Himalayan Ritual Massage at the Thai Square Spa. Just some of the benefits are stimulated circulation, hydrated the skin and it relaxes muscles. It was incredible and the perfect post-festival recovery!
I enjoyed the most luxurious and relaxing few hours in town to get me holiday ready!
Barcelona
D and I flew out to Barcelona for 4 nights – I still have holiday blues, Barcelona is a crazy wonderful city.
I had been about 13 years ago on a school trip so it was great to explore more as an adult. We did a great bike tour to get our barings of the city and checked in on the Sagrada Família which was even more incredible that I remember. We went up to Park Guell at dusk, which is my favourite time of day and enjoyed the incredible views from the Eclipse Bar at the W hotel. Afternoons were spent napping on the beach and we obviously ate as much food as possible!
Barelona stole my heart. And I can’t wait to share our adventures with you.
Oriole
For sophisticated cocktails and live jazz you must pay a visit to Oriole, the younger sister to one the glamourous Night Jar. Oriole is another underground joint in the heart of Smithfield Market. The cocktail list is exhaustive and so beautifully creative.
It’s dark and cosy, the perfect date-night location.
Bocconcino
If you ever go to Bocconcino and don’t order the lobster linguine then you are crazy. This elegant Italian restaurant on Berkeley Street is opposite my favourite casino in London, The Palm Beach Casino.
Overall the meal was fab and the service wonderful.
Somerset hens
Together with two other bridesmaids, we organised a hen weekend for our best friend in Somerset. There was dressing up, so much food, lots of prosecco, a canal boat and a story of someone falling in the canal! Oh and I cooked this brisket recipe from BBC Good Food and it went down an absolute treat!
Zia Lucia
The Pizza Club met for the second time at the wonderful Zia Lucia on Hollerway Road, just minutes from Highbury. I’m not sure how Pizza Club can top this one as the pizzas were so delicious. We enjoyed our meal al fresco with an ice cold Aperol Spritz. We loved to see the queue out the door of this neighbourhood spot on a Tuesday night. We can see why this place is popular! Maybe the best N’duja in town too, so nice and spicy.
Oh and what is Pizza Club? Well it’s an excuse to chat and eat lots of pizza! It all came from my love of pizza. See pizza brings people together. I can’t wait for the next one! Anywhere we should check out?
Country weddings
Bank holiday weekend was spent in lovely West Sussex for the most beautiful friends wedding. There were open topped buses, jazz being played whilst we sipped Pimms and lots of dancing into the night. God I love weddings!
I of course took photos of the food! The whole meal was delicious from the tapas for the table to start and then onto slabs of pork belly served with 5 different salads! So fresh and so delicious!
PHEW. That’s about it for Awesome August!
I hope you enjoyed catching up with me, I’ve missed you guys! But I’m back.
