Boopshi’s, Schnitzel & Spritz, Fitzrovia

Review of Boopshi Schnitzel & Spritz, Fitzrovia
The other weekend I hung out with my brother and we spent the day over in the west end. We lived in the area for a few years when we were both very little and the area around Charlotte Street holds some great memories for us. Somewhere we hadn’t tried before was Boopshi’s. My brother and I love Austrian influenced food so the simple menu of schnitzel’s and spritz’s was right up our street!

Like I said, the menu is lovely and simple (I much prefer this to a menu with 30 items on and no idea where to start). There is a choice of three types of schnitzel: rose veal, chicken and pork and a handful of other plates and sides thrown in. Unfortunately, the veal had run out but they didn’t tell us until we were making our order. A tad annoying as I felt they should have told us when we sat down. But that was the only little blip.

Firstly, I have to tell you how good the Spritz’s are! Numbered 1 to 8, they are a range of delicious fruity, sherbety, prosecco cocktails. We managed to make a good dent into the list but my favourite was #3 – grapfruit vodka, sherbet, grapefruit soda and prosecco. It was just so refreshing. Food wise we went for the chicken schnitzel with a duck egg, smoked sprats (they are in season at the mintute and are similar to a herring/sardine, love them), spatzle ‘n’ cheese, pickled cucumber salad and fries. Loved the schnitzel, it was cooked very well and not dry as they can sometimes be. But my favourite I think was the spatzle ‘n’ cheese. This was just delicious and warming and perfect for a cold autumns day. As I write this I wish I had a plate of it in front of me!

We didn’t make it to the desserts as we were quite full and knew we were heading to the Charlotte Street Hotel later in the day. They do great eclairs so we had to leave room for those! But the dessert list did look very tempting – for next time.

We had a great lunch here and I can’t wait to go back to have the veal and try out more of those spritz’s! We spent the rest of the day wandering around Heals and Foyles before finishing the day with an eclair and cocktail. A pretty good Saturday.
