The Pickle House x Karma Cans Brunch Club

The Pickle House Brunch Club
I love brunch. It’s a heartier version of breakfast in my opinion, with the added bonus of it being totally acceptable to add a couple of cocktails or bubbles to the order. I’ve eaten many a brunch in London, and there a lots of bottomless brunches out there. But today I would like to introduce you to new kids on the block, The Pickle House x Karma Cans Brunch Club!

I went to the very first brunch held in October, over in East London. It was a glorious sunny day making me even more happy to have got up and out on a Saturday morning. Don’t you just feel like you’re winning when you leave the house before 10am on a Saturday!?

But first, let me introduce the wonderful ladies behind this epic brunch offering.

The Pickle House was established at the beginning of 2014 by my very talented friend Flo Cherruault, in Hackney, London. After a trip to New York when she was introduced to the idea of drinking pickle juice she wanted to create a recipe that was specifically made to enjoy with cocktails and smoothies. Oh, and if you like Bloody Mary’s you need to try The Pickle House Bloody Mary Mix! The pickle juice adds a wonderful distinctive flavour.

Karma Cans are known for their freshly prepared, seasonal lunches that are delivered straight to your door. Their daily menu, different each day, is always healthy and as locally and sustainably sourced as possible. All deliveries are by bicycle and all their packaging is either reusable or compostable to cut down both waste and emissions. Pretty good right?

They have teamed up to provide an almost guilt free brunch… Bloody Mary’s definitely count as one of your 5 a day! The brunch is held in their lovely space in Hackney and it’s definitely cosy inside. If the sun is shining like it was for us then the space is left open so you can basque in the sunshine whilst you eat and drink.

The Brunch Menu

On Arrival you are greeted with a Bloody Mary complete with celery salt rim. I really need to get hold of some of this – it is SO good. Whilst you sip on your cocktail, tasty little mini french toast bites, dusted in cinnamon and raw cane sugar are passed around for you to enjoy. I mean what a way to start your Saturday! Again confirming brunch is always a good idea.

Once everyone is seated and the first round of pickle Bellinis are served you can begin to tuck into the mini scones and banana bread (all homemade, of course) served with seasonal fruit compote and butter. Be careful not to fill up too much… there is an epic plate of food about to arrive!

When you book you are given the choice between dishes for the main event. The vegetarian options are really strong and I actually thought twice about it, but then I saw chorizo and halloumi and realised I was being crazy.

The Pickle House Brunch Club
This plate of deliciousness is crispy chorizo, with a poached egg and grilled halloumi, served on toasted sourdough and kale with roasted red pepper and caramelised onion ragu, paprika and topped with chilli and lemon zest.

The Pickle House Brunch Club
Any brunch with chorizo, eggs and halloumi will always be a winner for me, but the spicy ragu and kale was such a great addition. It was the perfect partner to the smoky chorizo.

The Verdict

A couple of pickled Bellinis later we all left stuffed and very happy with our choice of Saturday morning. For £30 you get bottomless Bloody Mary’s or pickle Bellinis and your fill of delicious, wholesome food.

They recently held their second Brunch Club, so make sure to follow The Pickle House and Karma Cans so you don’t miss the next one!
