A firm favourite, Pix Bar

Review of Pix Bar Tapas, Islington
Pix is one of my favourite places in London to meet a friend for dinner and drinks.

I first discovered their Soho restaurant about two years ago, it’s a little place hidden away on Bateman Street. It has a great atmosphere and totally laid back – it would be a great place for a first date! I also come here a lot with the man. It’s a warm and welcoming place, cozy but not cramped; everyone is deep in their own conversation.

The Food

There is a mix of hot and cold tapas all laid out on the bar, there is no menu or ordering involved – you just go up and help yourself to what takes your fancy. As new hot items come out the lovely staff walk past with the offerings. There are two prices – £1.95 or £2.95 which I think is very reasonable. You just collect the skewers as you eat. There is such a great selection of good quality tapas, I definitely recommend the sweet potato tortilla and cod fritters. I normally go for a bottle of Castellblanch Semi Seco and about 7 to 8 dishes between two and it comes to about £25 each with service. They are also rather good at making delicious cocktails. It’s a great evening out and the staff are always fantastic. I never get the feeling we need to leave and can chat to our hearts content. I sometimes go to their on Upper Street restaurant which is also a great, slightly quieter than the Soho branch, which can sometimes be a welcome change. If you haven’t been you must go!

You can find them here.
