Night Tales, Old Street

Review of Night Tales, Old Street
Street food, cocktails and a DJ. Whats not to like! Night Tales is a street food pop-up that’s calling Old Street home for the winter. It’s located just behind the old Foundry. If your local to the area I’m sure you remember all the campaigners that were out there trying to save the sight from the art’otel.

I headed to Night Tales on Friday with some friends. I’d heard it gets busy so we got there for 6 – when it opens. There was already a little queue when we got there! Once we got in we headed straight to one of the long benches to grab a spot for the night. I started the night with a tangy rum and ginger beer cocktail whilst I decided where to start on the food.

We all wanted to take advantage of getting there nice and early so went straight for Patty & Bun, as we knew it would have the longest queues later on in the night. Okay, so I have a confession to make… Before going to Night Tales, I had never had a burger from Patty & Bun. I know, totally ridiculous. Well, what a burger! As I write this, I wish I had another Ari Gold right now. So messy, so delicious. Spot on. One of my friends went against the grain and ordered wings from Randy’s. Unfortunately, these weren’t so good. They were served just about luke warm which is not what you want from a chicken wing! It’s a shame because the sauce was pretty tasty.

After a glass or two of wine we were ready for the next round of food. Some went for Rum Kitchens chicken offering – I managed to grab a bite and it was pretty good! Love Rum Kitchen so it didn’t surprise me they were serving tasty food on the night. I went for something a little lighter, yum bun. The pork belly is so good. I always go for this when I see them about.

Unfortunately, we had to leave earlier that we wanted. A couple of friends couldn’t get there quite as early as us – they turned up at half 7, queued for an hour and realising they were still no where near the front, left to go to The Tramshed for food. So we left for a bar close by. It fills up really quickly and once it’s full there is not much movement as people are there for the long haul. Which means if you’re queuing outside it can be a long old wait. There are some top food stops here and there’s a great atmosphere too, so get there early and you’ll have a great time.
